In response to nghĩa là “để đáp lại” hay “để đối phó” thì nó hợp nghĩa:
○ In response to its overwhelming debt load, the government decided to increase interest rates…
= Để đối phó với khoản nợ cực lớn của nó, chính phủ đã quyết định tăng lãi suất…
Còn as opposed to nghĩa là “trái ngược với”, dùng để diễn tả sự tương phản, thì không hợp nghĩa với câu này. Ví dụ:
○ As opposed to its overwhelming debt load 10 years ago, the goverment only has $100 million in debt this year.
= Trái với khoản nợ cực lớn của nó 10 năm trước, chính phủ chỉ nợ 100 triệu đôla vào năm nay.
